Thanks to your Green Fingers!
Almost an astonishing 6000 tonnes of garden waste has been collected throughout the garden waste collection scheme this year, nearly 900 tonnes more than last year.
Many thanks to all our residents who take part in the garden waste scheme.
Collections have now ceased for the winter months. The scheme will start again in early Spring where properties with a garden will be delivered a roll of garden waste bags.
Back to school!
It's wasn't just the start of the new school year but the start of a new school recycling scheme too!
From September schools across the borough now have the opportunity to recycle their plastic and cardboard along with their paper and cans.
This is great initiative to encourage pupils to get involved in recycling, they can sort materials into the correct containers and get it collected for recycling, thus helping the environment and the planet.
Is your school part of it? If not please contact us.

Residents are showing their commitment, with almost 4000 tonnes of green waste being collected since the scheme started in April!
A big thank you to our keen green recyclers out there, keep up the good work. If you need extra green waste sacks they are available from the Environment Centre - £2 for a roll of 26.
Take a bit back! - Remember soil improver is available at
the Haverton Hill Recycling
Centre from the 1st-7th of every month. The soil
improver is made from all the green waste we collect in the borough,
composted down and provided back to the residents free of
charge.

Recycle Week Success 2009
Recycle Week was really successful! The Recycling Promotions Team had a very busy week giving out 100's of new recycling bags and boxes, meeting 100's of children at different schools and talking to 100's of residents!!
Recycle Week also saw our mascot Freda the Frog hopping about meeting and greeting youngsters who were keen to be green.
Let's hope next year is as successful, see you there!
Here's Freda with Daisy Bear at The Daisy Chain, as part of Recycle Week we donated a composter to help the children at the centre be green in their new gardens.

National Recycle Week - 22nd - 28th June 2009
It's easy to get involved this Recycle Week. We can all help by doing anything from re-using our carrier bags to recycling old electrical items - remembering to put as much of our recycling out, reducing our food waste and home composting of course! However you choose to waste less, it's easy, it helps the environment and you might even save money in the process.
Make your recycling pledge here.
Do you need advice about recycling? Do you need a new box or bag? The Recycling Promotions Team will be in the following locations during Recycle Week:

Compost Awareness Week
Compost Awareness Week saw some successful campaigning from our Environmental Education Team, tripling our usual sales of composters!
An excellent drumming session, attended by the Mayor, let the children from Fairfield Primary School show their rhythm, using composters as drums and recycled materials as shakers!
A home composting advisor was on hand to answer any questions from residents about composting, who will also be available at the Greener Living Roadshow - 7th June 2009. Low cost composters will also be available to buy at the event and are available all year round from the Environment Centre

What Fine Figures!
Over the last year, residents have recycled over 14,100 tonnes of materials.
That's 4200 tonnes of paper, 400 tonnes of tins/cans, 2570 tonnes of glass, 425 tonnes of plastic and cardboard and 6500 tonnes of garden waste.
A big thank you to all our residents who are participating in the kerbside recycling scheme, well done, keep up the good work!
Not on the plastic and cardboard scheme yet? Click here to find out when collections start in your area.
We want to say a great big 'Thank You!' You have
recycled over 100 bin wagons full of plastic and cardboard (an amazing
300 tonnes!) since we introduced the new scheme for
over 30,000 homes in October 2008.
And an increase in the amount that you are recycling is not the only
good news - we have also seen a big reduction in side waste that has
been placed out for collection, making our streets cleaner and
greener. Good news all round!
Plastic and cardboard is collected each fortnight on the same day as your
blue box and bag collections. All recycling should be placed
out on the kerbside before 7am for collection.
Another 30,000 homes will be given the opportunity to take part in the
scheme during April 2009. To find out if your home will be included
in the next phase, or to get a reminder about when your recycling is
collected, take a look at our helpful property search facility.
Keep up the great work!
ROLLS ROYCE WASTE & RECYCLING COLLECTION SERVICE
Early this year, we carried out a review of our waste and recycling services and asked our residents for their views and opinions. With over 3,000 responses it was clear that talking rubbish was important to our residents!
Under our brand new campaign, Stockton's Waste and Recycling Revolution, residents can look forward to some exciting changes and overall one of the best waste collection services in the Country.
Overwhelmingly our residents have told us that they wanted to keep a weekly refuse collection service and that is just what we have done! Stockton Council will continue its weekly refuse collection service as well as providing fortnightly recycling kerbside collections.
